Parents and Children Play and Learn Together at New Early Childhood Site on Scholastic.com

Parent Activity Center (P.A.C.) is Home to Clifford The Big Red Dog®, Magic School Bus®, I SPY®, WordGirl!® and Other Popular Children’s Characters

New York, NY (May 21, 2008) — According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation study,  43% of children ages four to six use a computer several times a week or more, leaving parents with the difficult task of monitoring and guiding their child’s first online experiences.  To help bridge the joys of traditional family learning and play with new media, Scholastic.com has launched the Parent Activity Center (P.A.C.), a new “go to” play space at scholastic.com where parents and their young children ages newborn to eight years-old can play and learn together.

The new P.A.C. site on Scholastic.com offers parents safe, age-appropriate, and educational content about, and for their young children.  Parents will find trusted tools and resources that support their child’s early education and development while kids play and learn with all of their favorite Scholastic characters and book series, including Clifford the Big Red Dog®, Miss SpiderThe Magic School Bus®, I SPY™, WordGirl!® and  Maya & Miguel™. Kids can experience fun and educational games and activities such as: I SPY Bingo, WordGirl “Synonym Toast,” The Magic School Bus “Simple Science” monthly experiments and more.

“Kids are starting to go online as early as the age two, and just as a parent would hold their child’s hand to cross the street, parents and their young child should be exploring Web sites together,” said Seth Radwell, President of eScholastic, a division of Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company. “The new Parent Activity Center on Scholastic.com has something for the whole family—fun games and activities that children will love and expert advice that parents need.”

Through P.A.C., parents can access free expert information on the Scholastic Parent Channel about their child’s learning and development at every age and stage.  Parents can search for topics related to their child’s age through the four key content areas including: “Books & Reading,” “Family Life,” “School & Learning,” and “Activities.” In addition to expert articles, tips and informational videos, parents can also follow the parenting blogs written by experts for every age including a toddler and grandparent blogs, can sign up for a newsletter geared to their child’s age group and share their own thoughts in the mom online community.
