London, 9th September 2015 - Scholastic UK, part of Scholastic Corporation, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books, today announced the acquisition of Troubadour Ltd who trade under The Travelling Book Company.

The acquisition makes book fairs available on a broader basis across the UK and Ireland through the network of experienced Travelling Book Company agents and staff. Scholastic is committed to delivering quality, affordable books to parents and children to encourage more reading for pleasure, a key component of success at school and in later life.

Steve Thompson Scholastic UK Co-Group MD stated:

“We have been tracking Troubadour’s progress for some time with their fantastic network of agents who have built strong relationships with schools over the last 15 years. We know that by having a flexible approach to providing schools with the events they need, we will give more children access to books in the UK and Ireland.”

Catherine Bell Scholastic UK Co-Group MD commented:

“One of the main factors in children feeling positive about reading is having the opportunity to choose books themselves. The acquisition of The Travelling Book Company has building readers at its heart; providing direct access to books from across the industry through a group of dedicated agents who have strong relationships with schools. If you have ever attended a book fair you can see first-hand how they motivate children to become excited about reading. We are thrilled to be able to make book fairs and events more widely available.”

Philip Hodson Troubadour former Managing Director said:

“We are pleased to announce the purchase of Troubadour (The Travelling Book Company) by Scholastic. This sale brings together two creative and experienced businesses, and offers exciting opportunities for the future of book fairs in schools for teachers, parents and children.”

The Troubadour team will continue to deliver excellent book fairs to schools while Scholastic reviews the business.
