Selected "Star Readers" to be featured in the monthly Scholastic Reading Club flyers starting this spring

New York, NY – September 20, 2013 – Do you have a child in your home or classroom who is a STAR READER? Now is your chance to share your child’s reading success with the nation. Starting today, parents and teachers can nominate a star reader and have the chance to see their children featured in the Scholastic Reading Club flyers, which are distributed to millions of classrooms and families each month. Scholastic Reading Club is celebrating readers from each grade (Pre-K–Middle School) by featuring students as “Star Readers” in the iconic flyers, which were recently redesigned to make it easier for parents to find books tailored to their child’s interests and reading level.

Parents and teachers can submit Star Readers online at www.scholastic.com/starreader today through December by sharing why the child is a Star Reader, along with his or her photograph (optional) and favorite book. Winners will be chosen at random to be featured in the spring flyers, starting in February 2014. Each Star Reader who is selected will receive a 10-book library, plus a book from the Scholastic Reading Club to review. They will be featured in a monthly, grade-specific Reading Club flyer with their book review.

“We’re looking for real-life readers to inspire their peers to read more and to become better readers,” said Judy Newman, Executive Vice President, Scholastic and President, Scholastic Reading Club. “With the higher expectations resulting from the Common Core State Standards, we want to make sure kids continue to be motivated and excited about independent reading. We hope that seeing a classmate in the Scholastic Reading Club flyer will encourage other students to become ‘Star Readers’ themselves.”

All submissions will be featured on the gallery at www.scholastic.com/starreader and will include: child’s first name, grade, state, reason he or she is a Star Reader, and image (if submitted). A total of 32 winners will be randomly selected: one for each flyer (Pre-school, Kindergarten, 1st Graders, 2nd Graders, 3rd Graders, 4th Graders, 5th Graders, and Middle School) for February, March, April, and May. There is no limit to how many Star Readers a parent or teacher can enter.
