World Rights Acquired for the Electrifying New Trilogy by Debut UK Talent Melinda Salisbury

London — March 14, 2014 — Scholastic UK is delighted to announce the signing of UK debut author Melinda Salisbury.

Ahead of Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Scholastic Children’s Books has acquired World Rights for new YA trilogy, The Sin Eater’s Daughter by Melinda Salisbury. Following a lively auction, Genevieve Herr, Commissioning Editor for Fiction, made the five-figure deal with Claire Wilson of Rogers, Coleridge & White, agent of last year’s Bologna hit Half Bad by Sally Green, which has now been translated into 45 languages.

This lush, beautifully written first novel by Melinda Salisbury is set in a treacherous court where heroine Twylla works as the court executioner and is compelled to do the queen’s bidding — including marrying the Prince. A chance encounter with a rebellious guard challenges Twylla to rethink everything she thought she knew...

Collectable, limited-edition proofs of The Sin Eater’s Daughter will be available at the Scholastic stand (Hall 25, stand A141) at Bologna Children’s Book Fair in March 2014. The Sin Eater’s Daughter will publish in January 2015.

UK Trade and Rights Director Antonia Pelari said: “The Sin Eater’s Daughter is a stunning story with global appeal. We are so excited to be launching Melinda Salisbury’s compelling debut trilogy at Bologna and can’t wait to get our early proof copies into the hands and imaginations of our customers.”

Genevieve Herr, Commissioning Editor for Fiction, said: “We are so proud to welcome Melinda Salisbury to the Scholastic list. I absolutely fell for The Sin Eater’s Daughter when it came in — it's assured, dark, and original. We are on tenterhooks for the next installment of her exceptional trilogy.”
