eReading app from Scholastic Builds Life-long Readers in Schools and at Home

New York, NY – October 2, 2013 — Storia®, the teacher-recommended ebook and ereading app created by Scholastic, was awarded the prestigious 2013 Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Award as a top mobile app for children, placing it among the very best apps that entertain and teach with flair, stimulate imagination and inspire creativity.

Parents’ Choice Foundation has been reviewing and recommending quality children’s media for more than 33 years. The awards are determined by a panel of educators, scientists, artists, librarians, parents, and kids, and are designed to provide parents reliable, unbiased information about quality products.

“The Parents’ Choice Awards have long been an authority in identifying quality, meaningful products for children. We are honored that Storia has been chosen as a Silver Honor winner this year,” said Deborah Forte, Executive Vice President and President, Scholastic Media. “We designed this app to help parents and teachers find the books that interest their kids while helping kids develop a true love of reading, which is always our ultimate goal.”

Storia is the free downloadable children’s ereading app and ebook system that grows with children from toddlers to teens and helps them learn and love to read in a fun, educational and engaging way. Storia comes with FIVE FREE ebooks, and offers access to a wide variety of age-appropriate titles that are carefully curated to offer a range of children’s ebooks on a variety of topics and reading levels and that are presented in a way that is true to the original print versions. A selection of Storia ebooks are enriched with fun, educational activities including vocabulary games, comprehension activities and fun video content as a reward when kids finish the book.

On Storia, parents and teachers can set up individual bookshelves for each of their children or students, purchase new ebooks, and track a child’s reading progress through each book. Tracking features include a report on the words the child looked up in the dictionary, how many pages they read, and how long the child spent reading each day.

Storia has received recognition from publications including The New York Times, School Library Journal, and Children’s Technology Review.

Parents’ Choice Awards Committees identify the very best products for children of different ages and backgrounds, and of varied skill and interest levels. The Parents’ Choice Awards® program has established the benchmarks of achievement in children’s media. Approximately 20% of those items submitted to the Parents’ Choice Awards™ program receive a commendation in one of the six award levels: Classic, Gold, Silver, Recommended, Approved, and Fun Stuff, underscoring the influential and celebrated achievement of being honored with a commendation from the Parents’ Choice Awards program.
