International operations includes the publication and distributions of products outside the United States by Scholastic's international operations and its export and foreign rights businesses.
The company has long-established operations in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, which generally mirror its United States business model. The company's interational operations have original trade and education publishing programs; distribute children's books, software and other materials through school-based bookclubs, school-based book fairs, trade channels and direct-to-home continuity programs; distribute magazines and offer on-line services. Original books published by most of these operations have received awards of excellene in children's literature.
Scholastic Canada, founded in 1957: English and French language children's books, school-based book clubs and school-based book fairs
United Kingdom, founded in 1964: children's books, school-based book clubs, school-based book fairs, professional books and supplemental teaching materials.
Australia, founded in 1968: school-based book clubs and book fairs that reach 90% of the country's primary schools, children's trade books, direct-to-home continuity programs
New Zealand, founded in 1964: the country's largest children's book publisher and leading book distributor to schools, reaching some 90% of the country's primary schools
Asia: English language reference materials and local language products, sold through a network of independent representatives in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand; school-based books clubs and book fairs in India; in the Philippines, school based book fairs; in Malaysia, school-based book clubs and continuity programs; in China, tutorial centers that provide English language training.
Latin America: operations in Mexico, Argentina and Puerto Rico that principally distribute books and educational material published by Scholastic
Foreign Rights and Export: license the rights to selected Scholastic titles for translation in more than 35 languages to other publishing companies around the world; books also are sold and exported to schools, libraries and bookstores and other distributors in more than 135 countries that are not otherwise directly served by Scholastic subsidiaries.
