Heather M. Cassano Joins Scholastic as Chief Experience Officer

New York, NY – February 27, 2014 – Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education and media company, today announced that Heather McIntosh Cassano has joined the Company as Chief Experience Officer. In this newly created position, Ms. Cassano  will work with the publishing and functional groups within the Company to help redefine and implement Scholastic’s next generation digital experiences for students, teachers, and parents. Leading a company-wide community of user experience designers, prototypers and user researchers, Ms. Cassano will help create a holistic user experience for Scholastic’s customers. Her first priorities will be the next evolution of the #1 website for elementary school teachers, www.scholastic.com, and related technology projects. She will also help product development and ecommerce teams achieve a more consistent user experience for all customers.

Ms. Cassano joins Scholastic with more than 25 years of experience in user experience and product design. Most recently, she served as Pearson’s Chief Experience Officer for approximately three years. Prior to that, she held senior positions at Yahoo, Google, Symantec Corporation and Sun Microsystems. Ms. Cassano founded her own business in the Boston area and developed a methodology for cross-functional collaborative teams to rapidly prototype, usability test, and iterate on user experience concepts. Her expertise in the field led to university appointments at Harvard, UCLA and Marist College.

Heather Cassano received her B.A. in computer science from Boston College, and a Master of Fine Arts from Bennington College, Vermont. In 2013, Heather was appointed as an advocate for The Design Authority, a collaboration of some of the world's most recognized Design leaders.
