Scholastic Names Duriya Aziz Vice President, Educational Publishing, International Group

New York, NY — May 9, 2011 — Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education and media company, today announced the appointment of Duriya Aziz as Vice President, Educational Publishing, International Group, reporting to Shane Armstrong, President, Scholastic International and Growth Markets. Ms. Aziz joins Scholastic from Marshall Cavendish International (Singapore), Singapore's largest educational publisher, where she had oversight of the Marshall Cavendish Education and Panpac Education imprints for Singapore and international markets. She led the introduction of Singapore curriculum materials in many countries around the world, particularly Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East, Africa and the United States. She also led the development and implementation of several successful K-10 mathematics programs including the successful adoptions of two Singapore Math programs in the US – Primary Mathematics and Math In Focus.

Ms. Aziz will be based in Singapore and will be responsible for building a publishing team to develop and adapt existing product for international markets, with a particular focus on the Southeast Asian region. She will also assume responsibility for directing the educational publishing operations within Scholastic India, where her knowledge of the education system will strengthen our capacity to tap into and develop curriculum materials specifically tailored for this growing market.

Ms. Aziz recently completed her doctoral research at the Leeds Metropolitan University and holds a bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from the Open University. She holds Graduate degrees in Business Administration and English Studies from the University of Strathclyde and the National University of Singapore, respectively.
