Scholastic Names Lucinda (Cindy) Durning Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Employee Services
New York, NY — March 5, 2012Scholastic Corporation (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children's publishing, education and media company, today announced that Lucinda (Cindy) Durning has joined the company as Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Employee Services. In this role, Ms. Durning oversees human resource staffing, compensation, benefits and HR systems. She joins the Company's Management Executive Committee and reports to Scholastic Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and CFO, Maureen O'Connell.
Announcing the appointment, Ms. O'Connell said, "Cindy comes to Scholastic with significant experience in human resources positions in several industries, including media, publishing, retail and insurance and in academia. Her wide-ranging experience will serve us well as we continue to expand globally and as we transition our businesses to more digital product and delivery."
Prior to joining Scholastic, Ms. Durning was Vice President, Human Resources at Columbia University. In that role, she was responsible for human resources and labor relations for the University's 16,000 full-time employees, including Columbia University Medical Center. At Columbia, she developed and implemented the first university-wide performance management process and revamped health and welfare benefits offerings and communications, resulting in an increase in participation in open enrollment from 24 percent to 67 percent in two year.
Before leading human resources at Columbia, Ms. Durning held senior HR positions at Cigna in Philadelphia and Times Publishing Company in St. Petersburg, FL.

Cindy Durning holds a B.A. in English from Skidmore College and an M.A. in Organizational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University.
