New York, NY – January 29, 2014 – Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education and media company, today announced that Rose Else-Mitchell is promoted to the new position of Executive Vice President, Scholastic Education and Publisher, Global Education. Rose joined Scholastic in 2001 and has brought to market the new generation versions of important educational technology programs such as READ 180® and SYSTEM 44®, as well as developing two powerful new ed tech programs, iRead™ and MATH 180™. Ms. Else-Mitchell was also instrumental in facilitating Scholastic Education’s development of a professional services business from 2005–2007.
In her new position as EVP of Scholastic Education, Ms. Else-Mitchell will oversee the creation and development of print-based, blended learning, and technology products and services for the pre-K to 12 education market. As Publisher, Global Education, she will also be responsible for creating a global roadmap for the company’s education products, seeking out synergies between international and U.S. needs. Ms. Else-Mitchell will collaborate with the international education teams in Australia, New Zealand, the U.K. and Canada to connect U.S.-developed product to the international business and will partner with SVP and International Education Publisher, Duriya Aziz, to bring Scholastic’s growing international portfolio of products, currently being developed in Singapore, to the U.S.

Ms. Else-Mitchell reports to Margery Mayer, President of Scholastic Education, for the U.S. group expansion and to Shane Armstrong, President, Scholastic International, for the international business.
Rose Else-Mitchell joined Scholastic from the English Teachers’ Association in Australia where she was Publisher from 1998 to 2000, to develop Scholastic’s first online reading curriculum for teachers. Before joining Scholastic, she was also an editor, children’s book specialist and high school teacher and was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award of New South Wales in 1995. Ms. Else-Mitchell earned her Masters degree at the University of Sydney and BA with Honors from Oxford University.
