New York, NY – August 28, 2013 – Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, announced today that Elizabeth Shaw has been named Editor-in-Chief, Scholastic Parent & Child® magazine. Elizabeth’s first issue is the August/ September issue, which saw a 37.5% increase in ad pages over last year.
Elizabeth joined Scholastic in 2012 as Executive Editor of the magazine. She was previously Executive Editor at Parenting magazine, where she directed editorial operations for both Parenting Early Years and Parenting School Years. During her three years with the magazine, she co-launched Parenting School Years, created multi-platform franchises, and managed and edited the brand’s book series. The magazine won two 2010 Eddie Awards for best consumer magazine series and best single article in the parenting category under her direction.
“Elizabeth Shaw brings her expertise and unique voice to Scholastic Parent & Child, both as an editor and a parent,” said Jamie Engel, Vice President and Publisher, Scholastic Parent & Child magazine. “The magazine is off to a promising start under her editorial guidance, and we are excited to see our magazine be the go-to resource to help parents raise happy and confident children.”
Along with all of the content that readers have grown to love in Scholastic Parent & Child, the August/September issue introduces two new sections. Reading Club is the road map to raising a lifelong reader, with book recommendations and reading motivation tips from top experts and teachers. The Download helps parents make sense of their kids’ digital world, from which apps are really worth downloading to understanding how much screen time is too much.
